Family Updates

It's been 47 years since the first meeting of the Sun Valley congregation. We would love to know where your family has been and what they have been doing? Are your children grown and married? Do you have grandchildren/great grandchildren? Have you retired and/or taken a fabulous vacation? Please post an update on your family especially if you will be unable to attend the reunion celebration.

Dee and Bob Grigg (preacher and members in the 70's) now live in Gladewater, Texas. Although Bob is retired, he continues to preach for a small church near Daingerfield, Texas. Since leaving Sun Valley, they have worked with several congregations in Texas, and Louisiana, and even did mission work in Brussels, Belgium for 6 years. Their children and grandchildren are living in various Texas cities, Colorado, and France.

What a great idea to have a reunion. I, too, have many happy memories of the Sun Valley Days. I never hear "Blessed Be the Tie" without thinking about how we always sang that as our last song when the big yellow bus was pulling into the parking lot after a youth devo.

It will be good to catch up with everyone.

Thanks Debbie and Jack for taking on this challenge.

I think having a reunion is a fabulous idea. We (Ella & John Cliver) won't be able to get to Houston in the fall. But I think having this website where we can find people we have looked for is awesome! My e-mail is clivere@yahoo.com and anybody who wants to correspond with me is more than welcome to do so. I just read the post from Karen Aven Gibson, and Karen you are one of the people I have been looking for.
John and I are living in Missouri right now about 125 miles east of Kansas City. We have two children, Abby and Sam. Sam is married, lives in Kansas City and just had our first grandchild in December 07.
So much has happened in our lives that I don't plan to share, but I guess most of you know that Mother and Daddy have both passed on. I have multiple sclerosis and deal with that daily. John is doing just fine.
It's great to hear from all of you.

Hello, I saw this through the contact I have with Charles Goodnight, Sun Valley warmly greeted me in 1979 and helped in my support for our work here in England for several years. It was such a thrill visiting the church and meeting so many lovely people. I was preaching for the Brandon church then. Pauline and I have been with the Bristol church for the past twelve years and although we are still small by US standards we are now quite a large church here. We used to get about 20 and now we are having about 90, as our building only seats 100 we do not have much room to move.
To anyone who remembers us we say hello and to all we say may God bless and keep you ever in his divine care.

Going Back to Our Roots

I posted a few photos of Bob & Millie Root's family in the album section of this blog site, but didn't realize that they had to be higher resolution. So, 2 of them look like we're in the Federal Witness Protection Program -- sorry about that. Lori pointed out that I still can't do math by noting that my caption was off a few years on the black and white photo I posted. Oh well... I tried...

Here's an update on all us Roots.

Bob & Millie are living in League City and worship with the church there on FM518. They've been retired for many years and say that "We don't do anything - and we don't start that until noon."

Denise married her high school sweetheart JD Bynum in 1974, and they had 2 daughters and a son. The girls are both married and her oldest daughter, Jessica, just made Denise the proudest Granny in the entire world on 11/26/2007! If you want to see a bazillion photos of their granddaughter, Aubrey Lynn Moore, just click on my name and you'll be directed to Jessica's blogsite. JD teaches Communication courses at Trinity University in San Antonio (all 3 of their kids graduated from Trinity) and Denise works for the family video business called OmniVideo. They plan to retire in a few years near New Braunfels at Canyon Lake.

Steve married Pat (sorry I can't remember Pat's maiden name!) and they had 2 sons. They divorced a long time ago. Steve's oldest son, Terry, followed his dad's lead and proudly serves in the US Air Force as a canine MP. His dog sniffs out bombs and, thankfully, Terry and the dog both survived a recent tour of duty in Iraq. Steve is retired from the military and enjoys hanging out with his veteran buddies up in Wichita Falls.

Jeraine (that would be me) never married and lives in the 'burbs near Pearland with Gina, her life partner, 3 cats, and 2 dogs. Gina teaches preschool aged children with multiple disabilities. After receiving her PhD in Political Science at UH, Jeraine taught government courses at San Jacinto College. In 1996, she went to work for Harris County and was the Director of Research for the Adult Probation Department until 2004. Currently she is the Training Coordinator for the Harris County Auditor and teaches accounting procedures to all County personnel. Believe it or not, she somehow makes that a pleasurable experience for her students :--)

Lori married Bush Bruce and they had 2 daughters and a son. They divorced and Lori later married Mark Smith. Lori & Mark are both Registered Nurses and together have a medical counseling business. Lori also specializes in renal dialysis and works as an independent contractor. Lori's middle daughter, Alena, graduated from Rutgers University in 2006 and is working on her Master's degree in Chemical Engineering while working full time as an Associate Consultant, specializing in air quality permitting and compliance issues for Natural Resource Group (NRG)'s Houston office.

Shari is married to Andy Bang and teaches in Smithville elementary school. She is currently working on her Master of Education degree and plans to become a school administrator. They enjoy living in a recently remodeled, beautiful Victorian home with their 2 friendly big dogs, Mystie and Bailey.

Bedee, bedee, bedee, that's all folks!

We have many fond memories of Sun Valley. We had a great youth group, we had fun parties, great Bible classes, many activities for learning and growing. We can't wait for this reunion to see everyone!

If you need an update on us - Since leaving Sun Valley, we have been at the Hidden Valley congregation 39 years. Our children, Connie, Tony & Tommy all still live in Houston and we have 5 super grandchildren. Ron has had some health problems the last 8 years but the Lord has brought him through all of them. We are so thankful!

We truly look forward to seeing you on September 20th!

Hope to see you soon!
